16 Jan Winter Adventures for 2015 at Prescott Farm
For those who don’t migrate to warmer climates, the best way to enjoy winter is to get outside and play in the snow! In addition to skiing, skating, and snowmobiling, New Hampshire has wonderful opportunities for some quieter activities that don’t require much money or special equipment, but still get the heart pumping and the spirit soaring. Here in the Lakes Region, Prescott Farm has some great winter programs lined up…
Snowshoe Adventure Hikes – Every Saturday throughout the winter, Prescott Farm in Laconia is now hosting two guided daytime snowshoe hikes—one is an hour long for those who would like to get out, explore, and enjoy the outdoors but don’t have as much time, and the other is two hours long and offers folks the chance to really explore Prescott Farm’s beautiful landscape and woods by snowshoe to see what the natural world has to offer this winter season. These hikes are for all ages, and beginners are welcome. The one-hour snowshoe is from 10-11am and the two-hour snowshoe is from 1-3pm. The cost is $7 per person or $5 for members (price includes snowshoe rental).
Sledding Open House – Also on Saturdays at Prescott Farm this winter are free Sledding Parties from 10am-3pm. If Mother Nature provides the snow, then the farm will provide the hill for some sledding fun! So bundle up, grab your sled, and bring your family to a Sledding Party. Prescott Farm welcomes you to pack a lunch to enjoy in the warmth of their “green” building, where hot cocoa and other light snacks will be available to purchase. Participation is free for this event, but please bring your own sled.
Moonlit Snowshoe Walks – Join the staff at Prescott Farm for their Full Moon Snowshoe Walk on Tuesday, February 3rd from 6:30-8:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to get out at night and take a walk through the snow under the bright light of winter’s full moon. You are welcome to bring your own snowshoes or borrow some from the farm. Hot chocolate, tea and coffee will be served after the walk. The cost for the guided walk is $7 per person, or $5 for Prescott Farm members, with a discount for family groups.
This winter is shaping up to be a fun one, so don’t miss out on the stunning New England scenery and the unique joys of the season. Happy Winter!
