The Lakes Gallery at Chi-Lin Offering Workshops with Tea this Summer!

nature journal 2Vacations and getaways are all about rest and relaxation, and what better way to slow down than to take a hands-on class to create something beautiful that can be a keepsake of that vacation or a treasured gift for a loved one? The Lakes Gallery at Chi-Lin has the perfect workshop for individuals or groups that are looking to spend some time connecting with their inner artists and bonding with friends in the process—crafting unique nature journals.

Suzanne Lee of The Lakes Gallery at Chi-Lin will be leading these workshops in creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind, handmade books. She says the journals are fun and easy to make, and can be used as diaries, summerhouse recipe books, or travel journals, and make unique gifts for weddings, graduations, or baby showers. Workshops will be offered for small groups of 2 – 5 people at the gallery, or guests of Mill Falls at the Lake can organize larger groups of 6 – 8, and Suzanne can lead the class in one of the spaces at Mill Falls, as all materials are easily transported. Bridal groups can have fun making little books for wedding memories!

nature journal 1The journals are created using lovely hand-made rice papers, combinations of natural dried leaves, your own hand block-printed Ginkgo and Japanese lace leaf prints, fabric collage, or pieces of old sketches and paintings. Small treasures, such as shells, ticket stubs, or pieces of photos, can be added to really customize the book. This is a great way to use wonderful fabric scraps and other natural items that you’ve saved if you would like, but all materials for a finished book are included in the workshop. No previous experience is needed, and classes are suitable for adults and children ages 12 and up.

Nature journal workshops are being planned for Monday – Friday from 9:30 – 1:30, but hours are flexible depending on availability. Tea from Chi-Lin’s Satori Tea Garden will always be served, but guests are encouraged to bring their own lunch. The cost for the workshop is $55 per person if booked a month in advance, or $65 per person closer to the workshop date.

Suzanne also offers other creative workshops throughout the summer as well as year-round. For more information or to make a reservation for lunch in the Tea Garden, please contact the gallery at 603-279-8663 or visit their website at
