16 Jun ‘Rocky Horror’ at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse
Every summer, the Winnipesaukee Playhouse becomes home to an amazing company of professional performers who produce award-winning plays and musicals in this intimate, state-of-the-art theatre in Meredith, NH. This year is no exception, and the playhouse has just launched their summer lineup with the high-energy cult classic, The Rocky Horror Show.
This is the show that launched the movie that became a cult phenomenon! It follows a young, naive couple, Brad and Janet, as they seek shelter at a mysterious old castle on a dark and stormy night. There they encounter “sweet transvestite” Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter, his “perfect” creation Rocky, and an assortment of other zany characters.
The Rocky Horror Show has long been known for audience participation, with guests who dress up and break out props at various points in the story. This tradition started at midnight showings of the film version, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, at theaters throughout the country. Now audience members love to participate at live productions as well, and the Winnipesaukee Playhouse is ready for the fun! Rocky Horror prop bags are available at the box office for a $5 donation. These bags include newspapers, flashlights, toilet paper, confetti, and more. Outside props will not be permitted into the theater for this show. Don’t want to throw things? That’s okay! Just sit back and enjoy the silliness!
The Rocky Horror Show is now playing, June 14 – 24, Mondays through Saturdays at 7:30, with a midnight performance on Saturday, June 17th, and a matinee on Monday June 19th at 2pm. Tickets are available from $20 – 34, and can be purchased online. For more information, tickets, and guidelines for participation, please visit the Winnipesaukee Playhouse here.
Up next for professional theater this summer: High Society, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Graduate, Round and Round the Garden, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. The Winnipesaukee Playhouse also hosts wonderful community theatre and education department shows. Check out the full schedule here.
