18 Mar King Pine Hosting Cynthia’s Challenge Ski-A-Thon for Local Boy
Although there wasn’t much snowfall in New Hampshire this winter, the ski resorts held their own and are hosting some fine spring skiing now. For those who wish to hit the slopes before packing up the skis for the season, there is still a chance to enjoy a good ski challenge while simultaneously helping out a great cause, as King Pine is having a ski party fundraiser for a local boy in need.
Starting this afternoon, March 18th at 4pm and going through Saturday the 19th, King Pine Ski Area at Purity Spring Resort in East Madison is sponsoring Cynthia’s Challenge 24-Hour Ski-A-Thon. This year’s Ski-A-Thon will benefit Kevin Dall, a 10-year-old boy from Chocorua, NH with Cerebral Palsy. The event’s goal is to raise $45,000 to fund a wheelchair-accessible van for Kevin. With this vehicle, Kevin’s family will be able to continue to travel with him and provide a much happier and fuller life.
Kevin was born almost 4 months premature, which caused a brain bleed and consequently, Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is considered a neurological disorder caused by a non-progressive brain injury or malformation that occurs while the child’s brain is under development. Cerebral palsy primarily affects body movement and muscle coordination. Kevin, now age 10, desperately needs a wheelchair accessible van so he can get to his many appointments and take part in the activities he loves, such as skiing at King Pine with Granite State Adaptive, with his mother, Amy Dall, and sister Carly. Kevin’s father, Gary Dall, very recently passed away after a long battle with cancer.
Registration for the Ski-A-Thon is $99 per person and includes dinner, breakfast, lunch, night-time snacks, an event t-shirt, and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the night, plus 24 hours of skiing on March 18-19 from 4pm to 4pm. Register a team of four and the 5th is free! Ages 8 and under are also free, and kids are encouraged to get friends and family to sponsor them per ski run. King Pine will provide a form to keep track of sponsors. A slope-side lodging package at King Pine is available through Purity Spring Resort, or come prepared with your sleeping bag for the Lodge!
