03 Oct Festivals and Foliage in the Lakes Region this Weekend
This weekend is shaping up to be the ultimate autumn weekend in the New Hampshire Lakes Region. The fall foliage is beginning to peak, with vibrant orange and red hues popping out, creating breathtaking vistas around the lakes. According to the most recent Visit NH fall foliage report, “leaf peepers are finding this year to be one of the best years they have seen in a while for bright, stunning color.” This is the time to get out and soak it up! In addition to the special fall foliage trains and cruises that will be running, here are a few other great activities happening this weekend to help celebrate the season…
16th Annual Autumn Craft Festival on the Lake – Saturday, October 4th and Sunday October 5th – The scenic Mill Falls Marketplace in Meredith will come alive with color, flavor, and music this weekend, when over 100 juried craftspeople will display and sell their American made arts, crafts, and specialty foods. There will be specialty food sampling and live musical entertainment each day. Gorgeous fall foliage around Lake Winnipesaukee completes this picture-perfect New England event! Admission and parking are free, and pets are welcome. The Festival is held rain or shine, Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Food sales benefit the Lakes Region Altrusa Club. For more information, please call 603-332-2616 or visit www.castleberryfairs.com.
Foliage Festival at Moulton Farm – Saturday, October 4th and Sunday October 5th – Fun and food abound at Moulton Farm’s Foliage Festival! Activities will include tractor rides to the farm’s “pick your own” pumpkin patch, visits with farm animals, fun fall games, a bounce house for children, and much more. Food for lunches will be available, including fresh cider doughnuts from Cider Bellies. Both of the farm’s corn mazes will be open as well. On Saturday “doughnut on a string” eating contests are just part of the fun! Weather permitting, helicopter rides to get a birds-eye view of the foliage will be available on Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the festival is free, but there will be a charge for entry to the farm’s corn mazes and helicopter rides. For more information, please visit www.moultonfarm.com or call 603-279-2915.
The 4th Annual Lakes Region Barrel Tasting Weekend – Saturday, October 4th and Sunday October 5th – In the tradition of many California vineyards, six wineries in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire have joined forces and will open house for two days of touring and tasting. The six participating wineries are: Coffin Cellars, Gilmanton Winery, Sap House Meadery, Haunting Whisper Vineyards, Newfound Lake Vineyards, and Hermit Woods Winery. At each winery, guests will have the opportunity to taste young wines directly from the oak and stainless steel barrels, meet the winemakers, tour the winemaking facilities, and learn all about the winemaking process. In addition, many of the wineries will be hosting other local vendors during the event, and offering special foods and wine-related items. There will also be prizes for guests who visit the most wineries during the weekend. For more information on the Barrel Tasting Weekend, please visit http://hermitwoods.com/events/barrel-tasting/.
With so many fun things happening, it may be difficult to choose what to do! In any case, we hope you have a chance to get outside to enjoy the beauty of the Lakes Region this weekend.
