Celebrate Independence Day at the Lake!

Duck raceIt’s not too late to head to Lake Winnipesaukee to catch some fun 4th of July events! For a quintessential summer experience, Meredith Village will be the place to be today and tomorrow, with many traditional activities lined up. Don’t let the weather forecast rain on your holiday parade! The festivities are still on!

The Meredith Lions Club will start things off with a splash for its 24th Annual Rubber Duckie Race. This event is not to be missed! It is the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year, benefiting many local charities, including scholarships for local students. At 4:00, over 4,000 yellow duckies will tumble down the waterfall at the Mill Falls Marketplace and float to the finish line just past the footbridge in Hesky Park. Spectators can sponsor their own ducks in the race for $5 for one duck or $20 for 5 ducks. Tickets for cash prizes will be on sale until 3:30 today, and the grand-prize winner will take home $1000. There are four other top cash prizes as well as 23 prizes donated by local restaurants and merchants. The duck race is truly an amazing sight! For more information, call Duck Central at 603-279-6016.

weirsfireworksThe annual Meredith fireworks and band concert have been postponed until tomorrow, Saturday, July 5th. In the evening, bring your blankets and lawn chairs over to Hesky Park on the lakeshore, where Occasional Brass & Strings will perform patriotic standards beginning at 7pm. Then at 9:30, everyone will be looking up as the fireworks begin to light up the night over Meredith Bay, and the sounds of the celebration ring across the lake.

The M/S Mount Washington is still planning to run the annual July 4th Fireworks Party Cruise tonight, as the weather should be fine and many islanders and other community members put on their own fireworks displays that can be enjoyed from the boat! This patriotically festive cruise on Friday, July 4 features a delicious dinner buffet, live entertainment provided by well-known local favorite Annie and the Orphans Band, and a scenic three-hour cruise. Tickets are $53 per person, and guests under 21 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The ship departs Weirs Beach at 7 pm and returns around 10 pm. The entire team at Mill Falls would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy July 4th holiday. Hope to see you at the Lake!
