With the warmer temperatures, longer days, and stunning views, spring may be the most popular time to hike in New England, especially near this NH vacation spot. However, the region has such a varied landscape and so many outdoor getaways, a lot of folks enjoy hiking in New Hampshire year round. The state has thousands of miles of scenic trails, including 1,200 miles in the White Mountain National Forest, as well as a section of the Appalachian Trail and 48 4,000-footers. Although some smaller mountains’ vistas remain hidden after the trees leaf out, here are a few Lakes Region hikes that, with moderate effort, provide a dramatic outlook at any time of year.

The feel-good event of the year is back—Kidworks Learning Center is once again teaming up with Mill Falls at the Lake and CruCon Cruise Outlet to bring the Meredith community a night of comedy and fun to benefit the children of Kidworks. On Friday, March 25th, nationally recognized comedians Moody McCarthy and Dave Cooperman will perform at Church Landing as part of the Kidworks 6th annual Comedy Night fundraising event. The doors open at 7pm with a cash bar available, and the comedians take the stage at 8pm. This year’s show promises to be a good one!

Fishing Derby landscapeDespite speculation earlier in the month that Lake Winnipesaukee would not be frozen enough for our usual winter activities, the two most popular events of the season are still happening! The New England Pond Hockey Classic will take place on nearby Lake Waukewan (see last week’s post here), and the surface of Meredith Bay is now freezing over enough to see ice-fishing bob houses popping up as folks gather from all over the country to participate in the much anticipated Great Rotary Fishing Derby!
