The days are longer, the scent of lilacs is in the air, trees and lawns all over New England are growing greener every day, and the lakes are calling. Summer is just around the corner! This burst of new life coincides with a day set aside to honor our fallen heroes, and to mark the occasion, the Lakes Region will be alive with events and celebrations all next weekend…

There’s something special about summertime in the Lakes Region. The warm evenings just seem to call for relaxing outdoors with friends and music, perhaps around a campfire, with the fresh lake air cooling as the sun sets behind the distant hills. For generations, folks here have enjoyed many such evenings at family camps and vacation spots, including one private property on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee that was destined to evolve into New England’s premiere outdoor concert venue, drawing artists and guests from all over the country.

After a long winter, spring is finally starting to show its true colors! Flowers are blooming, trees are unfurling their leaves, and people are out in their gardens and on the trails enjoying the mild weather. The spring season in New England is a short one, and many folks are ready to spend time playing in the dirt or simply soaking up nature. Here in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, there are some great events happening this weekend that celebrate this much-loved season and help us enjoy everything it has to offer.

With the warmer temperatures, longer days, and stunning views, spring may be the most popular time to hike in New England, especially near this NH vacation spot. However, the region has such a varied landscape and so many outdoor getaways, a lot of folks enjoy hiking in New Hampshire year round. The state has thousands of miles of scenic trails, including 1,200 miles in the White Mountain National Forest, as well as a section of the Appalachian Trail and 48 4,000-footers. Although some smaller mountains’ vistas remain hidden after the trees leaf out, here are a few Lakes Region hikes that, with moderate effort, provide a dramatic outlook at any time of year.

The feel-good event of the year is back—Kidworks Learning Center is once again teaming up with Mill Falls at the Lake and CruCon Cruise Outlet to bring the Meredith community a night of comedy and fun to benefit the children of Kidworks. On Friday, March 25th, nationally recognized comedians Moody McCarthy and Dave Cooperman will perform at Church Landing as part of the Kidworks 6th annual Comedy Night fundraising event. The doors open at 7pm with a cash bar available, and the comedians take the stage at 8pm. This year’s show promises to be a good one!
