Castle in the Clouds Elegantly Welcomes Holiday Season

Imagine stepping back in time and visiting a stately castle that’s decked out in its finest holiday décor, overlooking a stunning landscape of unspoiled mountains, hills, and lakes. What a wonderful way to enter the magic of the holiday season! Lucknow Estate, also known as Castle in the Clouds, welcomes you to do just that, as it opens its doors for its favorite holiday event: Christmas at the Castle.

On Saturday & Sunday, November 19 & 20, and Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, November 25, 26 & 27, Lucknow Estate in Moultonborough will be elegantly dressed in holiday style to welcome visitors for Christmas at the Castle. Lucknow was built in 1913-1914, high in the Ossipee Mountain Range. Known as Castle in the Clouds since its opening to the public in 1959, the house is an extraordinary example of Arts and Crafts architecture in New England, expressing that aesthetic movement’s philosophy of living in harmony with nature. The house exhibits skilled hand craftsmanship throughout its interior and exterior, and features a number of technological innovations of the early 20th century.

For this special holiday event, Lucknow will not only be decked in vintage holiday décor for public tours, featuring Christmas craft activities and live musical performances, but will also host a juried Artisan Fair in the Winnipesaukee Room at the Carriage House. Warm up with some hot cocoa and tasty cookies as you browse the local wares and get a jump on your holiday shopping! Guests are more than welcome to attend the Artisan Fair only, and will not have to pay admission fees if not taking the tour. Please note that you will not see the Castle, even from the outside, unless you purchase admission tickets and take a trolley to the mansion.
The Artisan Fair will be open to the public from 10:00am through 4:30pm.

At the Carriage House Restaurant, Executive Chef Gretchen Shortway will delight guests with delicious and comforting holiday meals. This seasonal, limited menu is one of a kind so you won’t want to miss it! The Carriage House Restaurant has extended serving hours for this special event, and will open to guests at 11am with the last seating at 4:30pm. They do not take reservations and recommend arriving early to avoid a wait. During Christmas at the Castle last year, the restaurant saw a wait-list as early as noon.

Lucknow will be open for tours from 10am through 4pm. The last tickets are sold at 3pm. Trolleys will depart from The Carriage House to Lucknow every 15 minutes on the quarter hour from 10:15am through 3:15pm. Admission fees are $20 for adults and seniors, $10 for children age 5-17, and free for children four years and under. Friends of the Castle prices are $15 for adults and seniors and $8 for children age 5-17. Groups of 20 guests or more can receive a discount when pre-registered at least 7 days in advance. Call 603-476-5414 if you’re interested in learning more about Group Discounts.

Families are welcome to this holiday event! There will be activities for children at the Castle as well as a visit from Santa Claus! He’ll be stopping by November 19, 25, 26 & 27 from 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm.

New this year is a Members Only Preview on Friday November 18th. Friends of the Castle are invited for a private, more intimate preview of this popular holiday event, to experience Lucknow in the evening, decorated and lit up to its finest!

For more information on the event or to purchase tickets, please visit or call 603-476-5900.
