16 Oct Altrusa Club’s First “Upscale Resale” Event a Big Success
On a warm and gentle September evening that felt more like summer than fall, many women gathered in a lovely home on the quiet shores of Lake Winnipesaukee for a special “Ladies’ Night Out,” where they enjoyed not only wonderful wine, hors d’oeuvres, and conversation, but also a chance to support a local non-profit while finding great bargains on gently used designer handbags and jewelry.
The first ever “Upscale Resale” event, hosted by Altrusa International Club of Meredith, took place on September 24th at a private home overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. Beautiful pieces of jewelry and handbags that were priced to sell could be found throughout the common areas of the house, where women were mingling and enjoying lively conversation while they shopped. Each guest had her own shopping bag that was provided at the door, and those bags filled up quickly!
“The first-time event raised more than $2,000 for Altrusa International Club of Meredith,” said Carol Gerken, president of the organization. “Guests had a great time ‘shopping for a cause!’”
Proceeds from the event will greatly help the international volunteer organization in its mission of community service, literacy, and scholarships. There are Altrusa clubs in 11 countries worldwide.
Carol says that the plan is to take a pause next year and bring the event back fresh in 2017. We will be looking forward to that! It was a lovely evening and the organization received positive feedback from all who attended!
