01 Aug 2nd Annual “Rafting for Wishes” on Meredith Bay!
Last year’s inaugural “Rafting for Wishes” event in Meredith was so much fun and so successful that the folks at Make-A-Wish® New Hampshire decided to make it an annual tradition, this year with their sights set on an even higher goal of making more wishes come true for seriously ill children in NH.
The 2nd Annual “Rafting for Wishes” will take place August 6th – August 8th, 2014 in Meredith Bay, right near Town Docks and the Inn at Bay Point. This year, event organizers Jason Tremblay and Jason Perry will be stranded, floating non-stop on Lake Winnipesaukee for 44 hours. Joining them will be teams of rafters, relay rafting. Each team, including Mill Falls at the Lake and The Common Man Family, will be comprised of at least 15 members and have at least one team member on the raft at all times during the 44-hour endurance challenge. Each team member is tasked with raising a minimum of $300 each, and the combined goal of the event is to raise $150,000 for Make-A-Wish® New Hampshire’s “Wish Buddies.”
To keep the rafters alert and lively, every hour a challenge will be issued, and the team that wins the most challenges will be crowned King of the Raft. On land, there will be a lot of fun activities for spectators and supporters. Hesky Park on the shore of Meredith Bay will be home to a free outdoor movie, live music, fireworks, and many more festivities.
In years past, Jason & Jason stranded themselves for 36 hours on both the Merrimack and Piscataqua rivers to raise funds and create awareness for the cause. Last year, in search of a more permanent home and wanting to cast a wider net, the organization chose beautiful Meredith Bay for the event, expanded the length of the challenge to 44 hours, and allowed others to form teams of 15 or more to participate relay-style.
This year, the goal is even higher and the enthusiasm is catching on. The Mill Falls at the Lake Team has exceeded its goal of $3,000 with $3,275 raised so far! However, there is still a long way to go toward the event goal of $150,000, so team members are in the final push to get the word out. There is room for more teams to join, as well as room on existing teams for more members. Of course, individuals may simply donate to the event by clicking here.
Come to Meredith anytime during the 3-day event to support your favorite teams, cheer on the King of the Raft competitions, and enjoy the movie and live band performances. Once again this year, several local restaurants will be participating in Eat-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish by designating special items from their menus that will generate proceeds for the organization. Visitors can help kids while eating great food!
Most importantly, please help by contributing any amount you can—no donation is too small. Every dollar raised can help Make-A-Wish kids renew their courage and find a turning point in their lives. Make-A-Wish New Hampshire grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions “to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.” To support Team Mill Falls, just click here, choose your favorite team member, and make your donation.
Many thanks from Make-A-Wish, Mill Falls, and our Wish Buddies!
